Endangered bird species in Asia total 324 species. To protect these birds, an information base of accurate data is essential. In May 2001 BirdLife Asia Division published “Threatened Birds of Asia” - a detailed landmark documentation of endangered birds in Asia with some 3,000 pages produced by many researchers and experts.
BirdLife recognized that such a large and detailed volume would reach only a small audience of experts. To make the vital information more readily available “Saving Asia’s threatened birds” was published which provides a brief overview of Asia’s endangered birds in just 250 pages.
BirdLife Asia Division launched the publication of “Saving Asia’s threatened birds” on November 12, 2004 in Tokyo in the presence of HIH Princess Takamado. Many Ambassadors of countries around Asia attended this large event, which was preceded by a meeting in October 2004 in Bogor, Indonesia about how the book can be used for conservation action.
