第9回ラムサール条約締約国会議に参加、アジアのラムサール条約候補湿地データ集を贈呈

 

Ramsar Convention is the first international convention on conservation of habitat: wetland. It was adopted in 1971 at the city of Ramsar, at the southern shore of the Caspian Sea in Iran. To the date (1 December 2005) 147 countries have ratified the Ramsar Convention. 1524 wetlands sites (total area over 1.2 million sq. km) have been designated as wetland sites with high value of conservation (Ramsar Sites)

Japan joined the Ramsar Convention in 1980 and has so far designated 33 Ramsar Sites (including the 20 new sites announced at the COP9 in Kampala.) Japan has also been active in promoting other Asian countries (the Philippines, Thailand and Myanmar) to join the Ramsar Convention.

The Ramsar COP was held in Kampala, Uganda in November 2005. It is the first Ramsar Conference held in Africa. More than 20 BirdLife participants from offices and partners all over the world: for example, Spain, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Kenya, Morocco, Belize. etc.
